Our latest Claud Butler MTB range makes use of 1×10 drivetrain, and that’s exactly where we started with the Alpina 2.0. Using Shimano’s latest CUES series drivetrain components, the wide range 11-48t cassette makes lightwork of gruelling climbs, while the narrow/wide 32t chainset keeps the chain in place over rough terrain. We have also stayed with Shimano for the brakes, using their ever-reliable MT200 hydraulic disc brakes that offer consistent and reliable stopping power.
The Alpina was always about developing a mountain bike that could handle the demands of UK trail centres and off-piste wild tracks, and central to that is modern-thinking frame geometry, specifically built around a 100mm fork and 29in wheels. Longer top tubes and slacker head angles combined with super short 45mm stems and ultra-wide 750mm handlebars result in a confidence inspiring ride that feels controlled while you enjoy the thrill of the trail. Adding to this, we’ve used 29×2.25” WTB Ranger tyres that are known for their fast-rolling, good puncture resistance and good grip across a range of trail conditions.
All in, the Alpina 2.0 is a serious bike for those looking to enter the world of mountain biking or even develop their existing skills further.
